Do you have a favorite role as a volunteer? Working in the community assisting people in need.
Why is volunteering important to you? It is important for me to volunteer as I am the hands and feet of Jesus. I believe that God created me to provide resources to those in need.
Can you share an experience that was particularly meaningful to you during your time as a volunteer?
One of the most meaningful times when volunteering was when we, Refuge Temple Ministries, had a Toy Drive, and the children were outside looking with eager anticipation through the window, selecting what toys they wanted. It was very emotional to watch, and I was grateful to be a part of blessing their little hearts.

My favorite event is God's Pit Crew Food Drive, which is held at the Martinsville Speedway. I also enjoy packing Blessing Buckets for GPC.
How has volunteering impacted you spiritually, emotionally, or in other ways?
While I consider it an honor to serve, volunteering has allowed me to walk in my God created purpose. It has deepened my level of compassion and love for people.
What have you learned about yourself and others through your volunteer experiences?
I have learned compassion from volunteering. Every story has three sides; you never know what people have been through, what they are going through, or how they got there. Most importantly, it is not my role to judge them but to help them.
What has been the biggest surprise about volunteering? I cannot recall any major surprises, as there is little room for mistakes when working for the Lord and under a great leader, my Pastor, Bishop Alan Preston, who operates his ministry with a spirit of excellence. My spiritual mom has also taught me that preparation is the key to a successful event. If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail. I also have a great team and group of eager volunteers who are always willing to serve at Refuge Temple Ministries. I believe it is essential to remain calm in the face of unexpected situations that may arise during an event.
What would you say to encourage someone else to volunteer?
Volunteering your time can be more valuable than resources. It is a two-way deal. Do what you can and serve when you can. There is no right or wrong, and it takes a village to care for a community. While there are times when I give and serve in private, being transparent allows others to see what their resources are helping and gives them suggestions and ideas on how they can help others. Transparency also builds partnerships, relationships, and trust.
