Volunteer: Pumpkin Delivery: Grace Network's Pumpkin Patch

Join Grace Network on Saturday, September 27 at First Baptist Church (23 Starling Ave.) to help set-up the annual Pumpkin Patch! Pumpkins will be delivered at 8:00 a.m. (tentative).

Volunteers are asked to help unload the pumpkins from the truck to the ground via an assembly line (fire-bucket brigade style).

This event is family-friendly and fun for all ages!

Tackfully Teamed Riding Academy serves individuals with disabilities, allowing them an opportunity to improve their physical, mental, emotional, and social lives through equine therapy and horse related activities.  We are seeking volunteers who can walk beside a horse during a lesson to act as a spotter, side-walker, or leader for special-needs riders. No previous experience with horses is needed. We provide all training at our center. 

Volunteers may also groom and tack horses, help with school and ground equine activities, help with fundraisers, clean tack, perform barn chores, assist administrative duties in the office, or help do arts and crafts with children in our classroom.

We do require an application and waiver to be filled out before participating. It can be filled out in person. But there is a LINK HERE to fill it out in advance.

We also welcome teams who want to come for the day or an afternoon to help with landscaping or repairs, interns in equine and health-science related educational programs, those who need community service hours, and veterans.

Volunteer: 1st Grade Swim Lessons - Volunteer to Assist!

Every year, we provide free swim lessons to all 1st grade students in Martinsville City and Henry County Schools and it’s one of our favorite programs!

To help things run smoothly, we’re looking for 5–6 volunteers to assist during the week. It doesn’t have to be every day, but we ask that you’re available to help at least a few times during the week. The children come Monday - Friday throughout the school year from 12:45p - 2p. 

Volunteers will receive 50% off their membership September - May! 

This is an incredibly rewarding experience—and a great way to give back while supporting water safety in our community.

Volunteers will be required to pass a background check and complete some online training.

REACH (Regional Engagement to Advance Community Health) AmeriCorps, a program of the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR), is dedicated to expanding capacity for public health service by providing direct outreach and education services in the Dan River Region. Community health educators will provide individualized support, addressing the region’s most pressing physical and mental health challenges.

We are seeking community health educators to serve approximately 25 hours a week over 3 months in Danville, Pittsylvania County and Caswell County, N.C.  

Details 

A stipend of $3,850 and tuition reimbursement   Mileage reimbursement for non-host site location travel   Approximately 25 hours a week for a service term of 300 hours  RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS 

REACH AmeriCorps members will conduct workshops over 40 weeks in targeted census tracts in Danville City, Pittsylvania County and Caswell County. Workshops will be based on specific population health topics, addressing areas of high need and chronic health issues. Members will serve approximately 25 hours/week. 

Other responsibilities include:  

Support outreach events, to include COVID vaccination clinics and neighborhood gatherings.  Provide assistance and referrals in helping individuals address social determinants of health to include transportation, housing, food insecurity, economic distress and childcare.  Refer individuals to REACH Community Health Workers for intensive service and connection to a primary care physician.  Collaborate with staff, fellow AmeriCorps members, and partner organizations to develop and support service projects in the primary areas of healthy futures.   

Members will receive training and mentoring from IALR staff and site representatives.

APPLICANTS MUST:

Be at least 18 years old on their first day of service Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident alien Have a high school diploma or high school equivalency or agree to obtain one during the term of service Not have served more than the allowed number of AmeriCorps terms previous to this term Dress appropriately; i.e., as a professional educator and wear AmeriCorps apparel or button while in service. Inspired by compassion and led by a desire to help, Nancy has launched a summer project to ensure our vulnerable community members have access to nourishing meals and essential supplies.

Beginning Sunday, April 27, 2025, Nancy will be organizing and distributing meals every Sunday and Thursday to those experiencing homelessness in our area. 

To make this project a success and provide meaningful support, we are seeking your generous contributions. We are in urgent need of the following items:

CCPFC’s Resource Lending Library offers a combination of educational resources, equipment and supplies for teachers and families in our community. Educational kits are age-appropriately themed and include books, games and toys that provide an interactive learning experience for children. Equipment includes a binding machine, laminators, copier and die cut machines. The Resource Lending Library also offers supplies such as construction paper, cardstock, and bulletin board paper. Items are arranged in the Resource Lending Library to assist teachers and families with choosing materials that are appropriate to the age of the child for which they are being selected.

United Way has a program to help assist nonprofits with events, collecting supplies, or helping out in a crisis.  When we receive a request from a nonprofit, we send out an email to our Ambassadors to allow them to choose the project if they are available to help.  Our only requirement for being an Ambassador is that our United Way Ambassador t-shirt be worn when you are able to serve.  We will provide the shirt free of charge!

Our Community-Based Mentoring program matches our volunteers, Bigs, with children in the community, Littles, in which the Big and Little consistently meet at least 1 hour per week to spend time together. Matches are made with considerations to such things as geographic location, interests, activities, and personalities.
